Impressions of the Romanian Students...

By: Bianca Birzan, grade 7A

Comenius: the first component of the Long Life Learning Programme. It is a complex project whose theme "Following the famous scientists" aims to show their contribution to European culture and science. With this project, students will develop their knowledge, especially in English and will find out information about famous scientists. Teachers and students from Poland, Romania, Italy, Bulgaria, Sweden, Norway and Germany participated at this project.
I, for one, attended the visit to Germany. After a long and tiring journey we reached Vechelde, the place where we had to stay for a week. I was surprised from the moment we entered the village because the houses were very different from those in Romania, they looked old rather. In our first day in Vechelde we met our hosts and we went to a school tour. I liked the classrooms very much because they were very modern. After that we left to new houses. The house where I stayed was apparently small, with a beautiful garden, in fact like all the houses from the village. When I went into the house I realized that was not like that, it had two floors and many rooms. My host, Clara, showed me my room, a very nice room which was hers.
The second day, we left to school where there was an opening ceremony. Then we went into the gym and we played some very nice games where we had the opportunity to meet other students. After that we went to have lunch "with the mayor". There the mayor delivered a speech and he tried to say "Good afternoon" in our languages. After lunch we left with our hosts for Braunschweig, a very beautiful city, where we went to a mall which was a castle and still looked like one on the outside.
The third day we went to a journey to Wolfsburg, where we visited Phaeno, a scientific exhibition, where we went to a simulator.
Day 4 began with a visit at Lennep, the native town of Conrad Roentgen, the scientist chosen by Germany. This city had a museum dedicated to Roentgen, where a woman explained the experiment that led to the discovery of X-rays. In Lennep we went to a city tour and we saw many beautiful houses which had nice gardens. After that we went to the Youth Hostel where we spent the night.
Day 5. We went to Wuerzburg, where we visited a very interesting castle. We also visited a part of the University. There we saw the experiment invented by Conrad Roentgen.
Day 6. We participated at the lessons. Later it was a closing ceremony, where we saw many dances of students from Vechelde. In the evening there was a disco.
Day 7. We said "Good bye" to the hosts and we left to Romania, our country.

Visit to Germany

I was one of the lucky persons who visited Germany as part of the Comenius project, the European project which included seven countries.
In the middle of May, full of enthusiasm, I left with 3 colleagues and 2 teachers. The journey was long, very long, very very long. After 24 hours and 30 minutes we reached our destination-Vechelde, where we were welcomed by the coordinator of the project of Germany, Michael. He taught English and Physical Education. Together we made the school tour and we were introduced to the families where we stayed. I stayed at Ehlers family. They have a boy Marten and a daughter Pia.
The next day was a relaxing one. We went to school. There was a ceremony where all the seven countries from the project were invited. We were invited in the gym too where we made sports and had fun with all the students from the project too. I made friends from the guys from Italy and we started to know each other better.
The next days we made visits to Wolfsburg, Wuerzburg, Lennep- the native town of the German scientist Wilhelm Conrad Roentgen who discovered the X rays which gave good results in medicine.
I like Wolfsburg very much because it is a modern city, a clean one. We visited two museums, in the first one they presented us Volkswagen cars and in the other one they presented us educational games.
During the trips by bus we played games, sang and had fun. We got along very well with the guys from Sweden, Italy and Germany.
At the family where I stayed I was welcomed very well, we visited Braunschweig where we made some shopping.
The visit was a pleasant one, being the first country abroad and I have to say that Germans are perfectionists.
On the way back I visited Viena and Budapesta, two big and beautiful cities. It was a nice experience and I hope that it won't be the last.

In 2008 our school entered the European Comenius "Following the famous scientists" project.
We participated in this project with students of Poland, Italy, Bulgaria, Sweden, Norway and Germany.
Since entered in Germany I was amazed by the beauty of these places. In our first day in there our hosts in Vechelde received us and we went to a school tour before going home. There is a very modern school.
The second day at the opening ceremony the students from Germany gave us a great performance. After that we went into the gym where we played some games. These games had the purpose of getting familiar with each other.
The third day we went in Wolfsburg where we visited the scientific of Phaeno. There were a lot of interesting things. We also visited Autostadt, a car exhibition.
The fourth day we visited Lennep, the city where Conrad Roentgen was born and the Roentgen museum. We visited the old city of Lennep, the place where we saw the house where Roentgen was born and the first school where he studied. The next day we went in Wuerzburg where we visited a castle and after that we spent some time in there. After that we visited a part of the university where Conrad Roentgen worked. That night we returned to Vechelde.
The last day which we spent in Germany we went with the German students at school. We saw their way of studying during the classes.
At the night we went to the school again for the farewell ceremony.
The next day we left for Romania in the morning. On the way back we visited Vienna and Budapest.
