Swedish' memories...Visit to Poland april 2009
Our visit in Poland. By Max and Alexandra

Our group went to Poland to follow in the footsteps of Copernicus and learn more about him and his work as an astronomer. Our group consists of 5 students, Maximilian, Michelle, Manu, Amanda, Alexandra and the teachers that followed us were Bodil, Ingela and Bettina. We stayed in Gdynia, in the north of Poland, at a hostel. Other countries that are involved in this projects Poland, Bulgaria, Norway, Romania, Italy and Germany. Our trip started Friday the 24th of April when we went by train to Karlskrona to go by ferry to Gdynia. The trip took about 15 hours, and we arrived to Gdynia early in Saturday morning. We first got to get installed at the hostel before taking a small tour in the city centre. After we visited the city center we went back to the hostel to fresh up. After that we went to the opening ceremony at the school where they served us nice food and performed for us. The ceremony ended late in the evening. At school In front of the hostel
Next morning we went by bus tofollow Copernicus footsteps, the drive started at 6 and we had breakfast on the way. Our first stop was Lidzbark, Warminski, visiting the castle with a guided tour.

Then we headed to Frombork where we got to see the museum, the cathedral, a organ concert and the Radziejowska Tower. Then we had a late lunch on the way back to the hostel, arriving at the hostel at 19:30. There we got to eat dinner. On Monday we ate breakfast at the hostel before going by bus and train to the Tricity (Gdynia, Gdansk and Sopot), where we got time to go shopping. We ate lunch in Gdansk and then visited Sopots famous pier for a brief while, before heading back.
The centre of Gdynia
On Tuesday we went to Torun. First we visited the astronomy center before going to the city of Torun. We got to see the University named Copernicus, the old city including the Copernicus? house, the crooked house and Saint Johns Church, while being informed by a guide. After this we headed back to the hostel, arriving at about 10 and then had supper there. We visited the Municipality Office in Gdynia at the 29th of April, meeting the vice-president and the boss of Department of Education. We Swedes stood out, asking questions about environmental issues and school in Poland and Gdynia. Then we went to the school where the closing ceremony took place. Overall a great educational trip, not just learning about Copernicus but also about the polish culture and getting to know new friends from different parts of Europe.
